San Miguel Corporation: Setting the Standard of CSR

Companies in today’s business world are expected to do more than just make profits. San Miguel Corporation (SMC) as one of the Philippines’ largest conglomerates is a perfect example of this. Their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm called the San Miguel Foundation, Inc. (SMFI) is dedicated to helping communities grow sustainably. Their goal is to help the country by creating strong and independent communities.

Education and Community Development

One of the core CSR activities of San Miguel Foundation, Inc. involve education that targets the youth belonging to low-income households. The company provides scholarships, literacy classes, and feeding programs. Through these education and support services, the company empowers young members of society and strengthens the community.

Disaster Relief and Environmental Stewardship

When it comes to crisis situations, the San Miguel Foundation, Inc. quickly provides assistance to disaster-stricken areas by providing relief and rehabilitation programs. In addition, the foundation shows its commitment to environmental preservation through its ambitious water conservation efforts and an initiative on river cleanups.

Water Sustainability

SMFI has developed a program called “Water for All” with an objective of reducing non-product utility water use by 50% by 2025. They aim to accomplish this goal by implementing water-saving technologies, recycling and reusing water, and building partnerships with stakeholders to protect and conserve vital sources of water.

River Cleanup Initiatives

The San Miguel Corporation’s river cleanup projects offer the most impactful CSR– actively reviving the life of waterways and mitigating the effects of pollution and reducing risks of flooding around Pasig River and certain provinces in Bulacan.
